"I'd suggest you all begin putting your things away, I am considering letting class out early today." Mina spoke somewhat softly, biting down on her bottom lip out of habit and slight pain.
This wasn't something she would normally do, letting the children go before she was suppose to, but she felt somewhat strange and didn't want any of them to around if something happened. "And what is going to happen, Mina?", she asked herself, then shook her head slowly. She had been having small pains since she woke up this morning, but she had pushed them to the back of her mind. She was heavily pregnant and sleep didn't come easy now, back pain was not out of the ordinary for her. But, as she went through her first class of the day, the pain only seemed to get worse. It would start in her lower back, then slowly radiate down her legs and up around her stomach. There seemed to be a tension within her body, but Mina ignored it and tried to sooth the pain with constant strokes to her bulging belly. She hoped the students wouldn't notice, and as far as she knew none of them had.
Labor was still about a month away, these had to be early contractions. Her body getting ready for what was to be coming soon, and she knew very well that they would eventually go away. She had been around when her mother was pregnant with her younger brother, she knew how it worked. Telling herself that over and over again, Mina smiled at the class of children. "Thank you for your cooperation today. You may go." There hadn't been much cooperation among students today, at least not toward the Professor. It wasn't like her to be so happy when things hadn't gone so well during the class, but she was longing to just sit and she refused to do so during a lesson.
Mina took a deep breath, watching as the students scattered up toward the Castle and slowly leaning back against a large tree she generally used to support herself if she ever found herself getting exhausted during a lesson. "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you? Because I was an awful little brat to you when you were pregnant with Timothy." Mina laughed quietly, staring somewhat dreamily up at the cloudy sky. Her lips parted, a small moan of pain escaping her mouth as she clenched at her swollen stomach. Sudden stinging, shooting pain, and a tenseness about her abdomen and hips. It was awful, and it seemed like they weren't giving her as much time to relax inbetween.

Edward gladly gathered his belongings scattered around him in the blur of other students’ movements, grabbing a quill there, a paper there, lunging his arm in between bodies. He was careful not to get elbowed in all the commotion, though someone had stepped on his robes once or twice. Stuffing his book in his crowded bag - and avoiding getting bitten - his honey colored eyes ventured over to his professor, who had slouched by a tree in obvious pain. The Hufflepuff hesitantly continued to put away his things, shaking them into place inside the bag. All the while, he kept his attention to Professor Smith, glancing every once and awhile towards her. Each time he did, though being few moments apart, she appeared to be in more and more agony. Edward’s gut feeling told him he should stay, but his mind suggested otherwise. What if he asked her what was wrong and he got scolded or told to leave? He sighed, bringing the strap of his book bag to over his shoulder. He took two steps forward and turned around, his golden braid swinging around to the other side of his neck. Ed faced Mina, his brows curved upward in worry. “Uh, Professor,” he said, pacing towards her, “are… are ya alright?” He blinked, crunching the dead, brown leaves under his feet. Something didn’t feel right at all. Mina was pregnant, but he didn’t know how long, nor did he know what he could possibly ever do to help a woman ready to give birth. His chest pounded at the thought. Some women die from having babies… “Ma’am?” Edward reached her, looking up at her. He stood back a few feet, though, because he was kind of intimidated by her huge stomach. He felt that if he touched it, even a little, that she would just explode and he would be to blame. Ed’s face flushed a little, bringing up a finger to scratch the side of his face. “Should I get someone?”

"Should I get someone?" Mina's first instinct was, of course, to refuse any kind of help. Especially from a student. The last thing she wanted to do was scare any of the young people she was helping educate. She took a shaky breath, opening her mouth to confirm her disinterest in having Edward go find someone to help her. But, it happened again. Strong aches, pins and needles, shooting throughout her back, quickly spilling down her buttocks and legs before viscously crawling back up her hips, pulling angrily at the muscles in and around her lower abdomen. Her mouth was open, ready to speak, but the only a painful scream left her now pale lips. Mina squeezed her eyes shut as a small trickle of blood rolled over her bottom lip, her teeth tearing into the pale-pink skin to cease the agonizing shouts. Her hands clenched her swollen belly, her feet digging into the dirt before sliding forward and allowing Mina to slowly place her behind on the ground.
Her screams had stopped, but loud whimpers and painful moans continued to radiate from the pregnant professor. Her body continued to ache dangerously, causing tears to swell up and suddenly pour down her reddened face. Her breath was caught in her throat as she slumped over, her head hanging over her legs. Her messy waves had fallen around her face, giving her a yellow curtain to hide the pain that was apparent in her facial features. However, even the stupidest person could see that she was in pain without actually seeing her tear-stained face. "Merlin.." Mina whimpered, rocking back and forth a bit as the pain finally started to subside.
The boy's question echoed in her mind now that she could actually think straight, and she lifted her head tiredly to look up at Edward. "I..Edward..Mr. Elric you need to get someone. Someone you think would know what they are doing, not another student." She kept telling herself that this wasn't happening. It couldn't be happening. This was too early for the baby! It would come out wrong, injured, sick, or even..Mina shook her head violently and cried out, tears spilling down her cheeks to soak her chin and neck. "This hurts, Edward! Go find someone now, damnit!" She couldn't remember the last time she had ever felt a pain like this, if she ever had before..Mina prayed, over and over again. She wasn't religious, there were times when Mina didn't even believe in an unnamed God, but she didn't know if this was going to help and she was going to try absolutely anything. She prayed for herself, the baby, for Liam. "Oh God, please have Liam here for me. Let him know this is happening, please. I can't do this without him, I can't." Her head shook back and forth in shock as she continued to sob.
Her head was spinning, her mind racing with a thousand thoughts and pains. But, even through all of this she remembered something. The last time she had felt so awful, the last time she had gone through pain even similar to this. It had been so long ago, and it had been inflicted by someone she loved. Her eyes were slammed shut once again, pushing the memory away angrily. "If I had known that child birth was going to be in anyway similar to that curse I would have never even thought about making love to him."

Professor Smith made the worst noises that the young boy had ever heard in his life. He watched her, lips slightly parted as she yelled in agony, her tear-stained, reddened face acknowledging the extremity of the pain she was experiencing. Edward only froze. He didn’t know what to do. His thoughts were circling in his mind so quickly that he was unable to process them all, especially not at once. He wanted desperately to run and get help; it was instinct. But then again, what if he did and something terrible happened to her while he was gone? After what seemed like hours, the woman looked up at him though her blonde hair. "I..Edward..Mr. Elric you need to get someone. Someone you think would know what they are doing, not another student." Without question, Edward nodded quickly and took off in the quickest run that he could possibly muster. His legs felt as soft and as fragile as custard, but the Hufflepuff still hurried on, his fists clenched as tightly as his teeth. "This hurts, Edward! Go find someone now, damnit!" The boy heard her and glanced over his shoulder to see her shaking her head in distress. That made him run even harder than he thought possible, his feet carrying him through the leaf-scattered forest and halfway back over the rolling, deep-green field outside of the Hogwarts castle in no time to the world, but an eternity for him. Ed knew the clock was ticking and if he didn’t find anyone soon, Mina would be forced by nature to give birth alone in the forest, costing her all the sanity and willpower in her delicate, little body… Poor Professor.
The golden-haired student gasped furiously for air. He was still sprinting, fully unaware of the damage this could possibly be having on his mechanical leg. Edward honestly would not care if he knew, anyway, he just had to find someone, get back, and- UMPH. Pain ran up his face as he fell back with force, his hands flailing upwards before he hit the ground squarely on his not-so-cushioned bum. He blinked around. Wait… where am I? He flexed his hands. Great. I fell in mud. On my ass, too, damn it all… Edward groaned before his mind picked up the pace. His amber-colored gaze jerked upwards to whoever he had bumped into, and based on the pair of shiny black shoes he had seen on his way to the mucky ground, it was certainly a professor… and a sir. “Sir!” he exclaimed, remaining on the muddy grass, “Professor Smith is havin’ a baby in the forest, we’ve gotta-!” Edward bounced back up and yanked on the mystery-man’s sleeve. “C’mon, we gotta go, now!!”

He stumbled forward from the force of a body colliding with his own. Damn students, couldn't even be bothered to watch where they were running. Couldn't look up long enough to see if someone was standing in their path. Someone, like him, out for a stroll in between his classes. "Mr... Elric? I think you need to watch where you're going. And look at this. You've splashed mud all over me!" His short outburst faded quickly as the student started speaking. A baby? But hadn't Mina said... The baby wasn't due yet.
His feet slid in the mud as his legs stretched out under him. The forest wasn't exactly close, and by the way the student was gasping for air, she wasn't at the point closest to them. He slid to a stop, realizing quickly that he didn't know her location. "Hurry up, boy! Show me where she is!" His foot tapped against he ground, his fingers moving in rythm against his leg as he waited for the kid. If he was going to procrastinate like this, they would never make it in time.
His gaze jerked away from Edward, to the forest, and back again to him. His feet shuffled against the ground as he moved a few more steps toward the trees. He dead grass crackled under his mud-covered shoes as he continued to press toward the forest. "What are you waiting for? There's a pregnant woman waiting, are you going to make her wait longer?!"
This couldn't be happening. He wasn't going to refuse to give her the help she would certainly need, but he didn't know what to do. It wasn't like he had ever delievered a baby before, let alone a woman's first and in the middle of a forest surrounded by creatures that could kill them without a second thought!

Edward recognized the rumbling male voice he heard over him. He looked up to see Roy Mustang, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. He immediately dropped the man’s sleeve and backed off, keeping eye contact with Roy’s angry glare that peered out from under a shock of his raven hair. Ed really did not like this guy. If it weren’t for Mrs. Smith in the forest in labor, Ed would have just ran off by now. The less contact he had with this man the better. "What are you waiting for? There's a pregnant woman waiting, are you going to make her wait longer?!" The Hufflepuff snorted, puffing his cheeks out to Mustang. “I’m going, I’m going!” he groaned, starting back off into a hard run. He knew instinctively that he was wearing himself out; the pain in his chest was enough to alert him of that, not to mention the tightening feeling under his ribs. Though, Edward still pushed on, racing across the dampened earth. It was then he realized he had no idea where he exactly came out of the forest or where they had entered that morning. Which trail was it again? The one past the hut or the one right beside it…? Didn’t both of them end up in the same place? But which was shorter? I am such an idiot! With his stomach in a knot, Ed hoped for the best and took the path closest to them, the one beside the hut. He looked up to the darkening sky as he pushed past brambles and bushes along the dirt trail, eyeing the way toward his Care of Magical Creatures professor. It seemed as if it was going to rain again soon. Great. Just what they needed to deliver a baby! The trunks of the trees that passed Ed were all foreign in a whirl of orange, yellow, and brown color, the passing scenery creating a kaleidoscope of stressed images around him. He could feel his heart thumping in his throat as he called out, “Professor! Professor Smith!” as he jumped over the natural obstacles in his path. As if by a miracle, the area began to grow more and more familiar; the landscape, the markings, he had been here when he left! Yes! His gaze carried him over to his left where he saw Professor Smith where he had left her (as if she could move, being in labor and all). He shot her a winning smile, grinning wider than he had at any Christmas in his entire life. Edward rushed over to her and bent as his knees. His breathing was incredibly stressed, yet he still managed to speak. Words could not explain the relief and happiness he felt right now, and they weren’t even out of the woods yet. “Professor, I brought Professor Mustang with me. He’ll know what to do, just tell us whatcha need, okay?” He rested his dirtied gloved hand on her shoulder supportively. “Everything’s gonna be alright, I promise.”

As the boy ran off, Mina settled herself against the tree and leaned her head back against the rough bark. Her eyes fixated on the fading figure as Edward left her. The pain seemed like a dream, a nightmare, now that it had subsided for the moment. It was hard to imagine something so awful could actually be real. However, even though the pain was easing away now, Mina was starting to doubt sending the young boy off to get help. What if she was in labor? And she had just sent her only help for the moment off through the middle of the forest to get someone. What if he got lost? She would be stuck here with the very little amount of information she had on child birth, and she was having trouble remembering any of that now. Mina closed her eyes and forced herself to search through her head. She needed that information.
Breathing, she had to breath slowly and steadily. Of course, she hadn't bothered doing so during what she was now calling a contraction. Mina took in a deep breath, slowing letting it out before going on. She needed to be calm, and keep herself from going into any kind of shock. And..she would need to push eventually, which she was certainly not looking forward to if the contractions felt that bad. The actually birth had to be so much worse. Even with all the things Mina knew, she knew that she could not do this on her own. It was impossible. Someone had to help. Edward had to bring someone, anyone, back. It felt like hours before Mina's eyes finally noticed the two blurs off in the distance coming closer to her. She sighed, relaxing back against the tree and trying to keep herself calm as she felt the onset of another painful attack. It only calmed her more when it was confirmed that Edward was running back to her, but she was a little confused about who was with him. The man didn't look familiar to her, at least not from far off. But it didn't matter who it was at the moment, as long as he knew how to deliver a baby.
The boy's happiness was soothing, more so than she thought was possible. Even with the pain starting to slowly flow throughout her back and lower body, Mina couldn't help but force a small smile onto her blood-stained lips as Edward kneeled next to her. However, her eyes averted away from the young blonde to glare up at the man he had recruited for this little mission. Professor Mustang? She knew him, well..she didn't know him. But wasn't the the one that Xanthe had told he about? Yes, he was the one she had gone on and on about like she was still that young school girl from years past. It was understandable now that Mina examined him more closely. But the man's good looks wasn't what she was worried about right now. He was the Defense professor, not a nurse. "Edward..you brought another professor? You couldn't find someone who knows..more about infants? I doubt he can even take care of a child, let alone deliver..."
Her words were cut short by a sudden gasp, followed by another agonizing scream. Her body ached, and shook with an amazing amount of pain. She closed her eyes for a moment, digging her nails into the dirt around her and shaking her head viscously. She didn't care anymore. Opening her eyes, Mina stared pleadingly up at the Professor. "Do something, please. Anything."

Dried leaves and twigs cracked under his feet as he followed the short boy through the forest. Lucky kid didn't have to duck every few seconds to miss being whacked in the face. The forest, it really needed to be trimmed. But honestly, even with him moving as quickly as he was, with green and brown flashing by so fast, he couldn't help but admire the beauty. The forest dated back hundreds of years, it was obvious just by looking at the height and width of some of the trees. The farther in the forest they went, the bigger the trees were.
He could feel the tension in the air as they drew closer to the pregnant woman. His hands shot up instinctively to protect his ear drums from the screaming. She was obviously in pain, but he wouldnt be able to help without his hands. Which, obviously, meant she needed to stop screaming. A silencing charm would be quite effective, but then he wouldn't know if something were going terribly wrong. Her scream broke and his hands fell from the side of his head.
The scent of rotting pine was strong in the air, leaves drifted down from the trees. On a normal day, this would all be soothing, but today wasn't normal. He was in charge of bringing a new life into the world. The weight on his shoulders was enormous, but he was ready to handle it. "Edward, hold her hand. Its going to hurt." It was true. From everything he had ever heard, she would be in a lot of pain. Enough pain to leave the boy with a broken hand. He crouched down near the baby-hole (XDD) and locked eyes with Mina. "On your next contraction, push."

Edward glared at Mustang, his sharp-featured face puffed out into a pout. “Well, I didn’t get ‘im on purpose Professor,” he said, crossing his arms. He did not blink once as he watched Roy Mustang kneel down in front of Mina. He really didn’t like the guy at all, and he silently wished he hadn’t bumped into him. Though, somebody was better than nobody, especially at one of the most crucial times of a woman’s life. “We just kinda bumped into each other. Believe me! The last person I would want ya to deal with is him!” The young boy frowned a little as he glanced to the soon-to-be mother, curious to see if he had cheered her up a little. She still looked miserable either way. My mom must have been like this when Al and I were born. She loved us enough to give us life at the expense of her pain… we tried to do the same for her. We were just not good enough… “Edward, hold her hand. It’s going to hurt." The Hufflepuff shot him a scowl, but followed his orders. He was so damn lucky Professor Smith was in labor or he would have asked why he had to be the one to get his hand crushed. Of course he rather let me get hurt than himself… but I can thank him later for the dirty work. Thinking subconsciously, Ed reluctantly held Mina’s left hand with his right, the one made of steel. If she was going to break one, it might as well be the one that could be replaced, right? He smiled at her. “You can do whatever you want to me.” His eyes scanned Mustang and he began to snicker. He had just realized something Roy had not, obviously. “You know, sir, I don’t think a baby can be born with her, uhm…” Edward blushed, scratching his neck as he normally did when he was embarrassed, and coughed, “panties on.”

"Push? Oh, Merlin, please tell me you know what you're doing." Her face was flushed, not only from screaming, but from embarrassment. This was a young boy and a man she had never even met before who were not only about to witness her give birth, something she thought might be relatively scarring to Edward if he caught a glimpse, but they were about to get a sight of something that was suppose to be exclusive to her husband and a few doctors. Mina took a deep breath, then glanced over to Edward who was now at her side and clutching her hand. "Thank you, Edward."
This was so awkward. Having an eleven year old boy point out to this strange man that her underwear was still on, it made her want to die and it scared her for her child's life. It wasn't suppose to be this way! She was suppose to know when she went into labor, and she was suppose to be in a hospital room with her husband comforting her. Now she was here, in a forest at Hogwarts without her husband and surrounded by a child and a man that she certainly did not want seeing her girl parts. Hesitantly and with a slight air of frustration, Mina removed her undergarments before falling back against the tree and groaning out in pain.
"On your next contraction, push." Professor Mustang's voice resounded in her mind as she felt the wave of pain come with yet another contraction. Her body wanted her to push, she could feel a sickening amount of pressure in her pelvic area, but her mind kept saying no. What if this was the wrong way to do it? She knew nothing about child birth, not how it actually felt. But she couldn't stop herself. As another scream left her mouth, she bore down and pushed. One hand dug into the dirt at her side, the other gripping and squeezing Edward's metal hand as tightly as she possibly could. Her entire body ached, every muscle working toward the same thing. She couldn't believe the pain in her genitals (Uh..), the feeling of something tearing through her and tremendous pressure around her hips and lower. It was the strangest thing she had ever felt, and she prayed for it to be over soon.

His eyes shot up, glaring at the boy through his raven (lmao) curtain of hair. He could feel sweat breaking out on his forehead; a cold, stress sweat. He didn't really know what he was doing, so he kept his face down. If Professor Smith saw the plain fear on his face, then she wouldn't trust his help. And by the way things were going, they didn't have time to get anyone else. Even if she didn't trust him, he was the best she was getting.
His arms slipped through the sleeves of his robes, and he tossed it to Edward. "Don't let that touch the ground," he ordered, not looking at the boy. His robe was definately the closest this to clean they would be finding any time soon, the only thing they could wrap the child in to keep the chill out. He knew enough to know that it could die without warmth. He rolled his sleeves up as her contraction began. Slowly, through her pain, he watched the child being born. It was a miraculous thing, despite the sickness the gripped his stomach.
Slowly, the tiny thing made its appearance in the world. It was covered in blood, and its arms ad legs were flailing wildly. He held his hands beneath the child's body, refusing to let even the tiniest part touch the ground. He wasn't here to bring it into the world only to let it catch a life-threatening illness and cease its short existence.
"Diffindo." He mumbled the spell quietly after shifting the child to one arm and removing his wand from the pocket of his trousers. It was a simple severing charm and it was aimed at the umbilical cord. It was the quickest and easiest way to seperate it from her body. Even as his gaze hovered on the child, his arm stretched absentmindedly for his robe. "My robe please, Edward."
