The stars seemed to be hiding tonight, the blanket of dark clouds pulled across the sky with a threat of a thunder storm. Not that Mina minded the rain, or the rolling thunder in the distance, it was the completely darkness outside that bothered her. She loved being outside more than anything, especially with her new little one, but if it was too dark to see the ground under her feet, then it was much too dark to be outside. It didn't matter tonight, anyway, Liam had stayed in Hogsmeade with the child tonight while Mina came in to finish a few things before class the next morning. She hated being away from them, not having the two around to give her love, she felt lonely during the week here to Hogwarts even though she was far from alone. She had friends, students, professors that she almost considered parents were even here for her. But it was hard without her family, she had relied on them for so long, well..more so Liam than the new child.
The young professor had wandered through the dimly lit corridors before eventually making it back to her classroom, she had things to do. Upon opening the heavy door, however, she felt absolutely no want to get her things ready for class. It could wait, couldn't it? Her eyes examined the empty classroom before her, wishing that she had a class right now, something to keep her mind off of her absent husband. Slowly, Mina started down the isle that seperated each side of the room, both filled with long tables that were used as student desks. Stopping, Mina stared up at the dusty, dark green chalkboard before her. There were still traces of what she had last written on it, some things about magical water creatures, her last lesson. Mina smiled, then took a deep breath and turned, examining the area off to the right of her chalkboard. Bookshelves, empty animal cages, picture frames occupied with images of herself and friends when they were still students, and her piano. Her mother's piano. Something that she refused to leave at home this time around at Hogwarts.
The thing was black, fairly large, and obviously old and worn. However, it worked like a brand new piano. It had been taken care of, mostly by her and her father, but more recently herself and Liam. At first it was a hard decision to remove it from their small flat, with the fear that a student was going to somehow hurt the thing. But, they both knew that no one was going to be there to play it during the school year, it would only gather dust at home. Just like it was doing now. Mina hadn't touched the thing sine she had moved it in, she didn't have time to. Technically didn't now, but she was going to find time. She missed the sound, the airy music bouncing around the small room, singing along with the tune.
Grinning, Mina trotted over to the large piano and got herself comfortable on the small bench in front of it, lifting the cover over the keys. Closing her eyes, Mina ran her fingers over the black and white keys, letting memories flow back as she allowed her fingers to find their place. She began to play, something she was taught as a child, something that was sang to her constantly when her mother was around. Mina had forgotten how calming this music was, how easing it was to let her nimble fingers flow over the keys, how amazing it was to hear what she was creating through such a magnificent instrument. The words her mother had sang to her resounded in her head as she played the song, and she couldn't help but sing.
Her singing, something that Mina never let anyone, other than her family, hear. It was something else her mother had taught her, other than playing that piano. It was hard not to teach a child to sing when learning the notes in songs, especially a child that got so passionate like Mina did. The only reason she was allowing herself to let it out now was, well, there was no one around and she knew she needed to get it out somehow. She could have gone around for days, moping while away from her small family, or she could sit here and belt out incorrect notes and possibly butcher a song her mother had made so perfect.
Her mouth opened, taking in the air around her before the melody flowed from her mouth to fill the previously silent room. Her fingers continued to move, almost dancing over the keys as her voice flowed along with the soft sounds coming from her piano. Her eyes were closed, Mina's fingers finding their way around on their own as her she sang. Each word full of emotion, and it was clear that Mina needed this time more than anything right now. She needed this music. It was unfortunate, however, that the young woman had forgot pull her classroom door, which had a habit of sticking, completely shut.
-- ((I would have just stuck the link in the post, but the words don't change colors for links or anything, so I'll post it here. Unfortunately I couldn't find a piano version with a girl who sounds like Mina singing. You could easily search up the song and find a piano version, however. For now just imagine the guitar as her piano.)) Her song (Familiar to Xanthe? Was the basis for her father's death thread)

His shoulder pressed against the trim of the door, a wry grin on his face. Music flowed through his ears, the notes as charming as they could be. He stared at the empty corridor listening. Before long, Mina's voice joined the melody. He froze in shock. Never would he have thought she was one to sing. But here he was, standing in the cold corridor, frozen to where he stood. Her voice rose and sunk with the beat of the keys she pressed. Hell, he hadn't known she had a piano, let alone that she could play.
The music was the only thing he heard. No one was in the halls, not that there should be. Any student caught in the hallways at this time was to be punished, and with teachers roaming the child would have to be good to avoid them all. Especially one leaning against the wall not moving. The easiest ones to detect were those moving, the periphial catching the movements. The only thing on him to be noticed was his pale skin, but he wasn't occupied with looking for roaming kids. No, his full attention was focused on the noise drifting through the door that wasn't quite closed.
All too soon, it seemed, her voice came to a stop. Next was the music. Suprisingly, he felt almost empty inside. A feeling he hadn't felt in a long time, a feeling he usually filled with womanizing or other tasks that could fill an empty case. An empty case like you? He shook his head once, clearing the thoughts before he knocked lightly on the door, doing the gentlemanly thing and waiting for an answer. If he hoped to make friends here, then he couldn't go barging into every teacher's room, demanding they speak to him.
